長崎県最大の前方後円墳です。後円部が前方部より大きく高くなっており、後円部左側に横穴式の玄室が設けられています。東彼杵町のひさご塚古墳は前方部と後円部の高さがあまり変わらないですが、双六古墳はその差が大きいのが特徴です。また、横穴式を採用しているところから、古墳時代末期のものであり、大きさから壱岐の首長墓であることは間違いないようです。この一帯は壱岐古墳群にあたり、１００基以上の古墳が見られます。弥生時代の国と古墳時代の国の連続性を考える上で興味深い場所と思われます。

スゴイ！！！！ こんな立派な古墳なのに、 〈これより先　車で進入禁止〉もなく、 その事にびっくり！ 駐車場に停めておくと、そこそこ歩きます。 だれも見張り等いなく、自然の一つであるかのようにそこにただある古墳。 古墳て、大事にされているのかされていないのか よくわからない。 不思議。

県内最大の前方後円墳という事で、近辺には他の古墳もあり、なるべく多くの実物を見てみたかったので立ち寄りました。 最初、近くまで車で行けるような話を聞いていたのですが、ちょっと上がったところの十字路で、真っ直ぐか右か分からなくなったので、下の駐車場に停めて歩いて行きました。 上ったところの右側が古墳の有る方ですが、道路が所々陥没している所が有るので、乗り入れずに下に停めた方が良いと思います。 3箇所ぐらい陥没しています。 古墳ですが1月と言う事もあり、古墳と辺りに生えている草が一面枯れて白茶けている光景でした。 季節が夏ぐらいだと一面緑なのかもしれません。 草むらを歩いて古墳を見ていると、昔の雰囲気を感...
