Izumo Yayoi-no-mori Museum — Attraction in Izumo

Great place to learn about the local history in the Kofun period. Although there are not many artifacts owned by the museum, there are many booklets and objects that can help understanding the local history. You can also try wearing the ancient clothes for free! 西谷墳墓群のふもとに造られた博物館。 島根を含む山陰といえば、 四隅突出型墳丘墓があり、歴史好きの 方には定評があるようです。 代表的な墳墓群のふもとに建てられた 博物館は、四隅ができるまでの壮大な ジオラマをもとに古代の人の生活なんかも 見ることが出来て、とても面白いと 思いました。

とても細かい造りをしているんです。

また、四隅から出土した副葬品や 土器など多数展示してあります。 保管庫がそのまま展示されていたり、 博物館の裏側を知れるような展示もあり 面白かったです。 子供も体験できる土器パズルや、 四隅の形をした滑り台、発掘体験の砂場 などなど工夫もありました。

西谷墳墓群への道も整備されており、 坂道ではありますが歩きやすかったです。 ものすごく大きな四隅なので、 こんなに大型のものを造らせる勢力が 出雲にはあったんだなと感じさせられます。

墳丘が残っていなかった四隅を 展示場として復活させてあるのも 若い方に知ってもらえるようにという 工夫だなあと思って楽しみました。 映像やパネルを使って、詳しい説明が してあります。

ただ、露骨に手すりが四隅部分に 付けられているものもあり、ちょっと 残念でした。 そこはありのままが良かったかなと。 違和感？というかそういうのを感じました。

観覧料はどちらも無料で、行く価値が ありました。 今回は行けていませんが、神社が 建っている9号墳にもまたい...

出雲の歴史を学べる良い場所でした。しかも無料。 出雲の昔の地形と、現在の地形を重ねた地図があって、それを見ると今よりも全然陸地が少なかったのがよくわかります。 出雲王の墓の遺跡の展示があって、朱の色が印象的でしたし、海外との交流が盛んだった形跡も見てとれて、面白かったです。
