Mankyusen Shrine has a long history as the final stop for the eight million gods who gather from all over Japan during Izumo Province's Kamiari Festival (annual in the month of the Kamiari, October of the lunar calendar), where they hold a divine council and a divine banquet (naori-e) before departing on the 26th of the same month (known as the departure of the gods).
The enshrined deities are the three gods who pioneered and built the country, Kushimiki-no-Mikoto, Onamuchi-no-Mikoto, and Sukunahikona-no-Mikoto, as well as the eight million gods from all over Japan, and the shrine is said to have miraculous powers for food, bountiful harvests, and the prosperity of various industries, including agriculture, civil engineering, and construction.
In addition, the divine virtues of the eight million gods who gather for the Kamiari Festival have been said to bring about miraculous powers for matchmaking, recovery from illness, the successful completion of various meetings, naori-e, and banquets, safe and secure travel, and the fulfillment of wishes at crossroads in life.
