As we headed northwards from Furano to Asahikawa, we stopped at Miyama Pass Viewing Vista located along National Route 237. This is not a big place. It is just a roadside viewing deck which requires visitors to cross a busy road with fast-moving traffic to reach it. But the view it accords is impressive.
From the viewing deck, looking eastwards are the patchwork farm lands spread over undulating hills with the cloud-covered mountain ranges of Daisetsuzan National Park in the background.
Near to the viewing deck are small land plots of different lavender plants. My wife and I were there in July and the lavender scent was most invigorating.
On the opposite side of the viewing deck across the road, there is "Memories of Furano - Gifts & Cafe", a large building selling souvenirs, toiletries, food and snacks.
