Giving three stars even though I my experience was worth less. Not much to do here IF there’s no mt. Fuji view and If the weather is cloudy. Giving three stars since I can see that this place tries by having new amenities, upgraded photo spots, freeselfie machines that take the photos for you and a cafe that has some aesthetic foods. The bus that usually goes here is down because of recent landslides. I took a taxi here instead and cost around 4,000 from Atami. When I got here, I tried to walk around the top and there’s not much you can explore or hang around at besides this concrete photo point. You could walk to the glamping area but seems like it’s not really a spot for the general public to enter. I think I might like this place more if I had a dog, since there is a dog play pen for big and small dogs. Other than that you could try the bush walk around this area I think is called the athletics course, (just head towards the playground). But the track doesn’t seem maintained so I didn’t try since I don’t wanna get covered in bugs. There’s a cemetery in this spot too so it’s not really somewhere I’d recommend to others. But if you’re in Atami and desperate to see mt. Fuji (that’s IF you can see it) I’m sure I would have had a better time here. Check the live cam and weather before coming. I came on a...
Read moreAssuming you have good weather, Jukkoku Pass offers photographers and tourists clear views of Sagami Bay to the east, Suruga Bay to the west, Izu Peninsula to the south, and Mt. Fuji to the north. The summit is mostly covered in various kinds of tall grasses, meaning that there are no tall trees to obstruct your view.
If you are up to a small hike, you can park your car/motorbike/bicycle in the gravel parking lot just before the entrance of the Izu Skyline Expressway (toll road) and walk up the slope on the road that leads to Atami Nichikinzan Cemetery. Just before you reach the cemetery, there is a paved trail among the grass that leads to the observation deck. The cemetery has a parking lot, but it is reserved for cemetery visitors only. The cemetery is next to a small park, has public restrooms, and vending machines.
Check out the Pix4Japan YouTube channel for an 11-minute video of my visit here with my dog. We arrived before sunrise and shot video on the summit through...
