Tanaka Stormwater Detention Basin — Attraction in Kashiwa

This is a wide area on the bank of Tone-gawa (river). In normal times this area is used as rice fields, but it is designed to withhold excess water when a flood occurs. A levee separates this basin from the river, but there are places where the low height of the levee allows the floodwater to enter. There is another levee which protects residential area. 柏市と我孫子市にまたがる調節池です。 柏ビレジがまだ山林だったり現在の農道や新大利根橋等がなかった数十年前は溜め池やアシやガマが茂る湿地があったりしてとてものどかな風景が広がっていました。

小学生だった当時、親戚の人たちと溜め池や用水路でよく魚やザリガニ釣りをしました。また用水路にはしじみ、湿地にはアカガエルとかもいました。
