Natadera is absolutely not to be missed. This is easily my favorite Temple in all of Ishikawa-ken (including the Kanazawa temples). It is serene and not overcrowded even in August the maples are turning red and orange and the main gate and temple are borderline perfect. This is a place you can see in 45 minutes but I recommend 3 hours of exploration. It has several trails and numerous photo opportunities. There are a variety of charms for sale and statues scattered around the grounds. Possibly most impressive of all is the Kannon which has 11 heads all making different facial expressions and many arms, each arm is carrying something or making a hand gesture. It's celebrating it's 1300th year of existence this year. (Keep in mind you cannot take pictures of the many headed Kannon)
Edit for November 9th 2018
Still the best Temple in Ishikawa Prefecture. Must see day trip if in Kanazawa or Komatsu or Kaga Onsen. New Autumn pictures posted today. Truly the most unique of the areas many offerings. Fourth visit and I will indeed return for a 5th.
Edit Again: Pictures from my better camera. Natadera how...

I used CANBUS to get there since I didn't have a car and it made getting there really easy from the station. Kaga Onsen Shinkansen Station also has really big coin lockers that take credit card so the whole thing ended up being super smooth.
If you come, I'd probably recommend you bring cash, and look into getting Goshuin at the main building at the top of the stairs if you'd like. They sold notebooks for them also at the small shop immediately...
