The lighthouse is located on the Kii Peninsula, at the southernmost tip of Honshu. The lighthouse is one of eight lighthouses that the Edo shogunate decided to build under the Edo Treaty signed in 1866 with the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands and the United States. Due to its hurried construction at a place where sailing was rough, the lighthouse was initially made of wood. However, the lighthouse was rebuilt in 1878 and in its current stone structure. ¥300 for parking and ¥300 to enter inside where you can climb the spiral stairwell for a great view...

The lighthouse here is very well maintained. 300yen to park 5 min walk away, and an entrance fee of 300yen per pax.

May seem a bit steep considering it's a mere 68 steps to the top of the lighthouse, which can be done in under a minute.

But a magnificent view on top and a small but well maintained museum at the bottom of the lighthouse may help offset the cost. At least you get to learn and experience something in the short 30 minutes or so you can expect...
