Manshu-in Temple — Attraction in Kyoto

Any place else but Kyoto and I’d likely say five stars. However, in comparison to many other Kyoto temples, it isn’t quite to that level (in my opinion). The two main drawbacks are (1) the extreme slog you’ll have to take to get here; it’s WAY up a steep hill close to almost nothing else and at least 30 minutes on foot from the nearest station, and (2) you can’t walk in the garden itself. It IS a beautiful garden and the temple itself IS very nice. I just prefer ones where you can walk through and “forest bathe” in the garden a little...

Unlike central Kyōto, this place looks quite and peaceful. The temple has many little details and the garden looks fantastic. The sign says that photography isn’t allowed, but I guess you’re not allowed to take photos of old items. Anyway, I freely took photos of the garden and walkways and nobody told...

以前、秋の紅葉シーズンに曼殊院門跡を訪れました。京都の中心部から少し離れた洛北の名刹であり、知る人ぞ知る紅葉の穴場スポットとして、かねてより行ってみたかった歴史的な名所です。

⛩️ 境内と紅葉の魅力 庭園の美しさ: 境内は山肌に庭園が広がり、特に大書院前の庭園は「小さな桂離宮」とも呼ばれる品格ある美しさ。見頃を迎えた紅葉が、この名庭園を鮮やかに彩る様子は圧巻の一言です。 穴場といえど...: 「穴場」と聞いていましたが、やはり紅葉のシーズンピーク時はそれなりに混雑していました。「予想以上の人でした」という口コミもあり、完全に独占できるわけではないようです。 混雑を避ける工夫: 観光バスが入っていけない場所であることや、海外観光客が少ないため、京都市内の主要な寺社と比べれば煩わしいほどの混雑ではない、という声もあります。もし混雑を避けたいなら、午前中の早い時間を狙うのがおすすめです。

🚌 アクセスと移動の注意点 バスはとても混んでいる！ 主要ターミナル（京都駅、三条京阪、四条河原町など）から市バス5系統を利用するのが一般的ですが、紅葉シーズンの市バスは想像以上に大混雑します。 道路渋滞も相まって、到着までかなりの時間がかかることを覚悟しておきましょう。 バス停からも一苦労: 最寄りのバス停「一乗寺清水町」または叡山電鉄「修学院駅」で下車しても、そこから曼殊院までは徒歩で約20分かかります。 この道は「山を登る」形になるため、歩きやすい靴で、時間に余裕を持って向かう必要があります。
