The shrine located next to Kurama temple. This is known for a steep climb with a wooden gate and a giant tree. Dog friendly! This is also the main shrine for the Kurama fire festival. It has a few satellite shrines in the city which are also used during the festival. This main shrine is located in the forest right at the top of a steep climb but well worth it. 同じ名を持つ身として一度は訪れたかった神社。鞍馬駅からすぐです。 大杉に守られてひっそりと佇む由岐神社。 本殿は新しく修繕されていました。 駅から神社までの道にある佃煮屋さん渡辺本舗では歴史を感じさせる大きな天狗のお面👺が並び圧巻です。

鞍馬山に一歩踏み入る辺りは雑木林になります。入って直ぐにあるこの由岐神社は皇室のお守りとして御所にあった物が遷宮されたものと伝わります。 牛若丸(源義経)が幼少期を過ごした地でもあり、摂社には剣術師匠の鬼一法眼を祀る神社もあります(ありました。2018の台風で半壊現在は取り壊されて跡地のみ) 神社は拝殿の中央が割れた構造で中階段が通る変わった構造です。特に中央から伸びる大杉は大きくて圧巻。 神社の本殿自体は小さめですが歴史と自然を感じる神社です。 毎年10/22に開催される鞍馬の火祭りはここで開催されます。祭りの模様は少し離れた京都御所の東隣りにある京都歴史資料館にさまざまな関係物が飾られていますので、興味がある方は見に行かれると良いでしょう。映像資料もありますが、昭和40年代の作成なので時代を感じます。(私が幼い昔の古き時代の懐かしい映像です)
