Bandokoro Falls — Attraction in Matsumoto

Bandokoro Falls is located in alps between Matsumoto & Takayama Cities, Nagano Prefecture in Japan. It’s height nearly 40m and width is 11m. There was even some hints of Autumn colors as the typically cool weather of the Norikura Highlands was more conducive to the changing of the leaves before the rest of the country at the lower elevations. There was a washroom in the car parking area near the main road (road 84). Anybody can reach the waterfall and also the top of waterfall and hike along the river.

It took about an hour by car from Matsumoto City. It is convenient because there is a parking lot and a toilet.

When you park your car, put 200 yen in cash at the entrance before using it. It takes about 5 minutes to walk to the observatory where you can see the waterfall, but please be careful as there are steep descending stairs. It is a scenic spot that is not well known.

Stunning waterfall, just 5min walk from parking lot (but down very very steep stairs, so quite an intense 5mins ;-) ). There was noone else when we arrived, so we had the view all to ourselves. You can turn it into a short hike too and visit the viewing point from above the waterfall as well as two other nearby waterfalls. There are toilets at the parking lot, no parking fee.
