Taisho Ike Pond is a beautiful alpine pond located in the Kamikochi Valley in Nagano Prefecture, Japan. It is known for its crystal clear water, its stunning mountain scenery, and its peaceful atmosphere.
I recently visited Taisho Ike Pond, and I was absolutely blown away. The pond is even more beautiful than I imagined. The water is crystal clear, and you can see the bottom of the pond even in the deepest areas. The surrounding mountains are stunning, and the reflection of the mountains in the water is simply breathtaking.
I also loved the peaceful atmosphere. There is a sense of tranquility and serenity at the pond that is hard to find anywhere else. I spent hours sitting by the pond and enjoying the scenery.
Overall, I had an amazing experience. It is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. I highly recommend a visit if you are looking for a peaceful and unforgettable experience.
Here are some of the things I loved about Taisho Ike Pond:

Read moreOn holidays driving in Japan, Takayama to Matsumoto 4th April 2024 stopped at Nakanoyu shop (closed) to see if road is open to Taisho Ike pond. Security guard at tunnel said road is closed to cars, but you can walk. We walked 3.1km approx. 1.5 hours thru a 1.6km tunnel & then 590m long tunnel uphill. Tunnels had a walking path and well lit. Great walk and beautiful scenery. Toilet at pond was open but snow around building and hotel there was closed, no vending machines. Pond was nice but the mountain scenery was amazing. Kappa bridge 3km from pond with thick snow on road and weather closing in so we didn't go. Less than a hour walk back. We were lucky with weather. No proper legal parking at...
Read moreGorgeous pond on a clear day. Note that we visited at the start of the season on 19 April 2025, and I don't quite recommend as the hiking trails are mostly closed and the path is snowy, icy and muddy, making it very challenging to walk. Only possible to visit by alighting from the designated bus stop. I'm sure it will be even more beautiful during spring or autumn.
Note that the only way to visit is by bus from Hirayu onsen and the bus arrives every 30mins. There is also no toilet at this stop so better go before you...
