The new remodel did not improve anything. It was fine. Sure it looks "new" and I'm sure they're doing more restaurant business but that alone says they should have built way more bathrooms there's always a line. Obvious corruption or negligence as there is no convenient place for elders, pregnant people etc to sit and wait like there used to be at the old station. They did not improve access nor did they make a place for bikes that was covered as there is never enough room for bikes especially if you're commuting for weekend work. Not only that but as for encouraging international people and tourism they made sure to only put the destinations in Japanese writing not spell it out in romanji or even furigana which would help more than half of all visitors. It's already a local joke how bad/mismatched the public transportation system is in Matsuyama. Extremely expensive for being non-speed trains, misleading and confusing way to buy the ticket for the "express" train and every single mode of mass transit uses a completely different system and is incredibly confusing for any visitors especially people from other prefectures. They also hide local trains behind the stairs and name the lines after obscure destinations confusing everyone. If I could count all the times I had to bail out, or prevent a local from a confusing making them miss thier train or got stranded because the system is terribly designed ... But they have gone and made it even more confusing for international people it feels like its so bad on purpose and have made no courtesy whatsoever for anybody but JR profits. I'm very disappointed in their business model these days it is one that is going to discourage mass transit use and push people into driving cars which are not great for our planet; our...
Read moreI found it a little challenging to figure out this train station. You have to check the fare map and purchase a ticket corresponding to the price it costs to get to your destination. This is your "fare ticket". You have to purchase an additional "express ticket" if you take one of the limited express trains. I think all the trains to Takamatsu were limited express but I'm not sure - that was the confusing part.
Luckily you can purchase both tickets independently, or together, at the ticket machines. Someone will check your ticket before entering the platform, so if you've got something wrong they will tell you to correct it.
Otherwise, there are convenient stores, restrooms, and a waiting room at...
