So I flew 7 hours to Tokyo, then another 1.5 hours to Sapporo, then took a 4-hour bus to Mombetsu, for my pilgrimage to Tokkari Center.
For the uninitiated, Tokkari Center's well-managed Instagram page probably is the reason why seals have such a cult following online. If you've seen cute videos of a seals, many of them would've came from here.
This place isn't quite accessible by public transport, so best to get a taxi if you're not driving. I took a bus here and it was still a ~12-minute walk from the bus station in the summer heat.
There's Seal Land and Seal Sea Paradise, so be sure to check both out if you're here. Entrance fee is ¥500, but there is an option to donate ¥1000, to which the caretaker will give you a small token of appreciation when you pass them the ticket.
First feeding session starts at 10:30. Would recommend coming here early if you also wish to catch the feeding session at Seal Sea Paradise at 12:00.
Everything is conducted in Japanese unfortunately, so if you're not a Japanese speaker like me, you're pretty much just ... observing. You don't get to pet or feed the seals here (my visit was July 2025). The feeding session lasts about 10 minutes, so there isn't much to do here.
