Please read about my horrible gift shop experience below as well. This is located in the same waiting room/ticket office but is separate entity to Garinko so my review of the cruise is a 5 star and the independent gift shop is a 0 star review.
I had a wonderful experience with the Ice Breaker sunrise cruise and photo staff. It was a nice peaceful experience seeing the drift ice. I would recommend doing the sunrise cruise, but it was pretty overcast so I didn't get to see the sun appear distorted into different shapes but there's nothing I can do about the weather.
However, I am WARNING EVERYONE TO STAY AWAY FROM THE FRONT GIFT Shop near/across Seicomart. It's the shop with military memorabilias, wood carvings, jam, milk jams and what appears to be refrigerated.
I was rudely kicked out of a store because I was there for 30 min and didn't buy anything. I was on the phone after waiting for a response from my husband who is not with me, on the other side of the planet. I asked politely if I could photo some of the pins to see what my husband wanted. I am conversing via text and it takes awhile and my husband stopped answering so I finally called. The owner said dozo on photography so fine. But he then threatened to call the police on me because he wanted me out. I told him I was going to buy something. He didn't care, threatened to call the police on me for something so stupid.
So he lost business from me and I hope he continues to lose more business. I do not appreciate the rudeness. I have been to Japan 30+ times and this experience is by far the most shocking experience I've ever had here. Do not think all Japanese are all so kind and polite! This one isn't! So please do not give this guy any business. This had ruined my day and its not even 11 am. I just want to leave and I have another two nights stay here. I'm so livid right now, I'm in tears.
I don't even know what the name of the shop is, but the owner who is in his 70's can speak pretty good English. He's just an a**hole who basically wants you to make hasty decisions to make a purchase from the impression he's given me. Yes, I raised my voice, but how would you react and respond to such nonsense? I didn't do anything wrong. I even said I was waiting for a response as to what to buy and I'm buying something. He said he didn't believe I was going to buy anything. Like why would I lie? But to be threatened police and have him place his hands on me? That's not cool. I do not appreciate being treated like I stole something. Honestly I probably felt a hint of racism too. He just...
Read moreI’m writing to express my deep disappointment and concern regarding my recent experience with the Mombetsu Ice Breaker Cruise. I believe there are areas where improvements could be made to avoid disappointment tourists who specifically visit to experience the ice breaker cruise. During my visit, I had eagerly anticipated the opportunity to witness the awe-inspiring sight of the ice breaking. However, to my dismay, there was no ice breaker activity during the cruise. This left me feeling extremely let down, as one of the main reasons I chose to participate in the cruise was to witness this unique phenomenon. I strongly believe that the cruise company should have provided clear and accurate information to the tourists prior to booking. It is crucial for potential passengers to be informed that there may be instances when ice breaker activities are not possible due to weather conditions or other factors. By providing this important information, tourists can make an informed decision about weather they still wish to proceed with the cruise, even if ice breaking is...
Read moreAdults: approx. 3,500-4,500 yen, Children: approx. 1,750-2,250 yen (varies depending on the season and time of day), relatively reasonable. The thrill of breaking through the ice as you travel in a small boat is a feature of this tour. You can observe the drifting ice up close from the deck. As the main attraction is sightseeing outdoors, you will need to take measures against the cold. If you want an active, realistic experience, try the...
