日本の石油機械採掘における第一号油井の跡地の記念公園です。 様々な遺物が展示されています。 遺跡とはいえ採掘跡地なので天然ガスが発生しており火気厳禁だそうで、思わぬところから自然を感じさせます。 古くから海に油が漂うことから発見された油田との説明が書かれていましたが、確かに向かいの公園にある夕凪の橋から海を見ていたら直下に油の帯が見えました。 道の駅に近接していますので駐車には困りません。 立ち寄りをお勧めします。

道の駅の緑地公園と道路を挟んで綺麗なバラが咲いていました。 道を渡ると『石油記念公園』の石碑が建っています。 朝早くからご近所のボランティアさんでしょうかバラの手入れをされていました。 公園内を散策すると意外と面白い！ 『日本石油』の初代社長さんが『出雲崎』の出身とか、汲み上げポンプ、精製タンクなども展示されています。 道の駅内にも資料館が在るのですが時間の都合でパスしてしまいました。此方も観たかったな。

その当時地中深くの油田を探す方法として縦孔を掘り、そこへ爆薬を破裂させた際の振動の波長帯から判断していたとのこと。 採油用ポンプは意外にもアメリカ映画で見かける長く伸びたビームの先端にハンマーヘッドが上下運動するあのタイプが使用され、汲み上げた原油の精製にはウイスキーと同様な蒸留が使用されていました。 これら重機や装置が保存・展示され説明もあるのでフラッと足を踏み入れたつもりでしたが知識の一つになり良かったです。 文字と画像だけでは興味も惹かれなかったと思います。実際使われていた展示物の保存する意...

石油産業発祥地記念公園辺りは、昔から海面に油（石油）が浮かんでいる事は知られていたそうですが、特に使い道はなかったようで近隣住民が燃やしていただけ？で流通するような産業ではありませんでした。 しかし、明治になって石油ランプの普及と共に石油利用ニーズが発生し石油産業が此処から始まったそうです。 見渡せる小さな公園ですが、園内には初期の石油採掘に使われた道具類などが記念資料として展示されているので楽しめました。 道の駅出雲崎の道向かいなので車を停める場...
