Visited here in early January , not peak time to visit Okinawa but i really wanted to see some Cherry Blossoms and this was my best bet. i was staying in Okinawa so had to take a bus up to the castle. if you are in Okinawa without a car then the Yanbaru Express Bus will get you from Naha to the bottom of the hill where the remains are, make sure you check the bus times as it's not very frequent and to plan a visit without too many delays it's best to have the times. when i visited there was a shuttle bust that will take you up the hill close to the entry to the remains but i'm not sure if it is always there or just during cherry blossom season. there isn't much left of the castle but the view from the top of the hill is really impressive and when the Cherry blossom is in full bloom it's a great place to visit, not sure i would recommend it in off season but if you are in the area i think it's still worth a peak.

I took bus #66 from Nago Bus Terminal at station 2, the ride cost me 790¥. You’ll know you’re at the right stop because an English translation will inform you of the stop. Bus #66 travels in a counterclockwise direction. You can also take bus #65 as well. The castle ruins itself didn’t take too long to check out, maybe half an hour for me. But it takes around 15 minutes to walk there from the bus stop but there is a nice naturey detour that you can take on the way. After the castle, you can check out the nearby beach when returning to the bus stop. You can continue your journey with bus #66 but I took bus #65 in the opposite direction to go back to the terminal. I’m sure you don’t have to leave from and return to the terminal but that’s the easiest route if you don’t want to hunt and peck for your bus stops. I’ve left the timetables for the bus stops near the castle for your convenience.

I didn't manage to go into the castle as i was running very short on time but the outside was already amazing. The drives there as well as the place itself would be so much better if i had arrived a few weeks later with all the Cherry Blossoms in full bloom as you can see they are all getting ready to start blooming! I think i would have given it 4 stars if i had time to explore inside and it was during Cherry Blossom bloom as well but still a place to drop by if you happen to be going to the aquarium, Kouri bridge or driving by to Cape Hedo (about 20mins detour)

Great view, only a little small. The disappointment is that most of the stuff are reconstructed, not so much of a “remain” as the name suggest. Ticket is not pricey so I wouldn’t imagine it to be absolutely interesting. Beware of blood sucking bugs too (they are black, small, and hurts when they bite you). The exhibits are mostly in Japanese and the translation to English is short (doesn’t explain much. I read both language so I know). Overall good place for photo taking but not a must visit I feel.

Interesting to learn about how the castle was laid out. Very different from the castle in the European context. Definitely interesting to walk about to understand it's history. There is also a drink seller just outside the entrance to the ruins...it is a drink made of brown sugar, which you can try, and if interested, buy the whole bottle. We also bumped into an old lady who was picking berries off the trees in the area...the berries are edible, but you have to pick the red ones, which are sweet.

They're definitely smaller than we imagined when we made the trip. The traffic to get up there was crazy busy, with all the road construction and couldn't congestion, even on the Expressway. From Naha it took nearly 3 hours, which is nearly an hour longer than usual. It was pretty, though the trees JUST started blossoming. Would probably be better over the next few weeks. Motobu is lovely as well, and just a short trip down hill, if you have the time to spare for the extra trip.
