This is a great tourist information center. As the name suggests, it supports the thatch-roofed village of Miyama, which is only a few miles down the road. The building itself looks quite new, and inside has a small historic exhibit (Japanese culture), some rare stuffed wildlife on display, books, maps, souvenirs, and e-bike rentals. I'll start with the e-bikes. The time I was there (summer 2021), a 4-hour rental was only 1,000 yen. I've never seen prices for nice e-bike rentals this low in Japan. I heard you can even book a rental and picnic lunch set for 3,500 yen. I was most interested in looking at the animals on display, because they had a really rare mountain eagle hawk, a Japanese bear, and a serow (I've only seen one of these three in the wild, and it was on the move so I didn't get a good look). My only complaint, and this is a small one, is that the glass cases that display the animals are so clean, and there are so many overhead lights, that it was nearly impossible to get a picture without reflection or glare. This could also be because I was using my phone. I will definitely be back to try the e-bike rental...
