花見の時と、花火の時に大勢が訪れる古墳公園。トイレがあるので小さな子どもを連れて遊べます。とてもキレイに整備されています。駅前自治会さんが管理されているとのこと。ありがとうございます。 学習の丘に「4号石室模擬復元」なるものがあり、立体的に古墳を体感することができます。すぐ隣には現代のお墓があり、古墳の上からお墓を眺めて物思いにふけることができます。 交通量の多い道路と線路に挟まれているので少しうるさいです。アンパンマン列車が通ってくれてたらテンション上がったのになぁ～

この古墳群は大正時代から有名でした。第二次大戦直後には愛媛大学の松岡文一教授によって一部の調査がなされ天冠などの立派な遺物が出土しておりましたが、今回は公園化に伴って市によって調査団が組織され愛媛考古学協会会長名本二六雄氏を委員長とした体制で完全な調査がおこなわれ4500点もの遺物が出土し金銅製の馬具や翡翠の勾玉な ど地方ではまれな６世紀 の豪族の墳墓が出現しました。　永年の調査によって古代の新居浜が明らかになった良...
