Ishikawa Zoo — Attraction in Nomi

Although didn’t go in expecting the best zoo in the world, came out feeling more let down and sad about the conditions of the animals than expected. The birds have picked all their feathers out in frustration and are confined to tiny cages. There was one single chimp in an enclosure, with no toys or stimulation. The big cats are kept in single cells with their own mess on the floor, pacing up and down continuously out of boredom and insanity. The elephant is literally one of the saddest things I’ve ever seen, alone in a tiny, bare area with nothing to eat, drink or play with. Do NOT go to this zoo if you are looking to see animals. A small zoo but with some interesting species.Ishikawa Zoo opened in Tatsunokuchi Hill Park on October 9, 1999. The 23-hectare site reproduces the original habitat of animals while taking advantage of the natural terrain. Good place to spend your time with family. The zoo is clean and tidy. It is not a big zoo. Restaurants are closed on Saturdays and Sundays when I was there, so please check that to bring the food.
