A good looking reconstruction of Echizen-Ono castle. You can enter the castle to get panaramic views of the surrounding city of Ono, and to get more context on what this castle was all about.

Getting a picture of the castle itself is tricky, because it stands quite tall and on a hilltop surrounded by big trees. The best place for a picture I found is at the south-east end from the roadstation parking lot, using a telephoto lens.

Getting to this castle can be done in two ways: the long winding slope towards the north-east or south-east side of the mountain, or a number of flights of stairs, totalling roughly 350 steps towards the west side of the mountain.

Free parking lots are available on the west end, and the south-east end (near what looks to be a roadstation). The place is not exactly wheelchair accessible for its requirement to walk uphill for quite a while. Admission is ¥300 at the time of writing, and only applies to the castle main keep. All areas around it are free to roam. Benches are available at certain intervals during the climb, but I would recommend to be in good physical condition anyway. Toilets are available at the main keep (before admission requirement), and at the...

After visiting the Ichijōdani Asakura Family Historic Ruins, we took the bus to Ōno-shi.After gettingt off at the Ōno bus stop, we walked toward the Ōno Castle. There were several cold springs along the road. We heard that the spring water of Ōno-shi is very famous in Japan, so we tasted some, oh! very cool and refreshing. Ōno Castle was located at Kameyama Hill, so we had to go climbing the hill to arrive at the castle. After a while, we finally arrived at Ōno Castle. There were many artifacts in the castle and visitors were not allowed to take pictures. When we went upstairs to the castle tower, we saw the beautiful scenery of the city. The Ōno-shi is far from the Fukui and the bus fee is expensive. So If you want to take the bus to the Ōno-shi, I suggest that you can buy the Holiday One-Day Pass from the Keifuku Bus counter in the Echizen Railway Fukui Station, then you can save much...

Pretty small compared to the Himeji and Nagoya Castles. The interior of the building was mostly renovated and was not kept in its original state, the floorings were in vinyl while the stairs has the metal edges. No taking of photos are allowed once inside the building.

Ono City is pretty clean though a bit sleepy. No food stalls or stores are open especially on Sundays. No 7-11's or Family Mart as well.

The train from Fukui to Ono City by way of Kuzuryu (JR Train) has an interval of 3 hrs, be sure to bring some food supplies for...

A cool rebuild of a castle It looks great from the outside and it's pretty center of oono so that's cool as it's ready to get there. The park around it was beautiful in autumn. As usual in Japan, the castle is rebuild. The inside is a museum but it's a bit of a shame that they did not try to redo the rings in the old style, too.
