This place has probably seen better days: old and kind of dilapidated—almost abandoned. I spent five nights and hardly saw anyone else in the place. Each time I used the bath (there are four) I had it to myself. The quality of the water was superb. But showering was problematic as the necessary facilities just aren’t there, though it’s not impossible to do it. I stayed in the self-service wing and cooked breakfast, lunch and dinner for myself every day, which I liked. They have some old pots and pans, but not great quality. Be sure to bring your own utensils. There’s a common fridge and microwave. Because no one else was there, I had those things all to myself. Rented the heater, TV and a secure room with lock and key, among other extras. The room was was an old Tatami style room without any view, but my cooking area adjoined the room and thus not shared. Staff were friendly and accommodating. All in it set me back 4800 per night. Not bad. If you’re just visiting Japan from the West, you’re likely to be greatly disappointed in these accommodations; but if you’ve been around Japan enough, you’ll be familiar with this type of ryokan, which can be a lot of fun if you’re in the right...
Read moreThe hotel parking and entrance were hard to find and at first I thought we had come to the wrong place. At ¥8,800 yen a night with breakfast, this onsen ryokan was average.
It wad obvious that the hay day had passed for this ryokan. On entering, the overpowering smell of chickens from the pet shop in the lobby was very noticeable. There were cobwebs and the remnants of mold and stains everywhere. Word of notice, this hotel has NO AIR CONDITIONERS OR FANS. This made a very rainy, humid night nearly unbearable after the onsen.
There are four onsen on site. They were great. Especially the outdoor bath. The others were intriguing, but the temperature varied greatly with little warning. From extremely hot to freezing cold. For me, that’s okay but it was surprising.
I will also note that I found bugs like ゲジゲジ hidden in the toilets at night and there was a feeling of uncleanliness to the place.
But the staff were lovely. And the breakfast was absolutely delicious. Though, I thought we were getting a nabe and it turned out to be just a big piece of tofu. A delicious piece, but it was a little disappointing it wasn’t...
Read moreThis was one of my favorite stays in Japan. After reading the reviews I was a bit hesitant, but am so glad I went! 4 really nice Onsens with differnt mineral compositions, the most options in town! Really loved the outdoor one.
Yes it is old school and shows the toll of time but it really feels authentic japenese. The rooms are basic with paper sliding doors, a table and futon beds. It felt plenty clean to me but if I really looked I could find a spider web here or there in the corners of the hallway ceilings. The Onsens themselves also showed the tells of time but this just made it feel more authentic.
Plugs are standard flat non grounded as found in the USA I didn't need any adapter as mentioned.
The operator was a really nice elder japenese lady who didn't speak English so we had to use Google translate.
If you are looking for fancy amenities this is not for you. It felt clean to me, but if you would like an affordable authentic down to earth experience dont...
