Although this “castle”, Asahi Castle, isn’t a true reconstruction the site was Niijo (Nii Castle) from the Kamakura Period. It was apparently a fort rather than a castle. The period shows the shift to a military government with a Shogun holding power over the emperor from 1185, after the Gempei War. The park area is nice with tress and temples. Too out of the way and less significant for tourists but...

一度実際に田んぼアートを見たくて、行ってきました。旭城の4階の展望台から見ると一番綺麗に見えるようにデザインされているようですね。尾張旭市の市政50周年が今年のテーマ！40周年から毎年行われているということは11回目ですね。 左は尾張旭市のマスコットキャラクター"あさぴー"右は？？？JAのキャラクターのようですね。"いなほちゃん"

旭城は昔、城があった公園の一角に建ってますが、史実に基づいて建てられたものではないようですね。あくまでイメージ。1階はレストラン。3階は愛知県内の城(建物あり)の案内と甲冑などの展示。4階は展望台となってます。かなり低いですので...

It was very beautiful and I really enjoyed it very much. It was a great ride up there with my motorcycle. Only was sad that the restaurant did not open. Really wanted to have lunch there.

新居城…北西に長池、北東に山田池を。その間を南へ細長く伸びた丘陵の先端を利用し築城された中世の平山城。 西のテニスコートの方から上がりました。東、西、南側の三方に深い沼の湿地がめぐり、北側は二条の土塁から造られ、居城を兼ねた地方の堅固な城だったかなと。室町時代以後の戦国時代での様子はあまり文献がないようです。南北朝時代に水野良春氏が父方の地であるこの地へ来て新居の地を開拓し、その4代目の孫にあたる宗国氏が城を築城したと。 土塁の他には目新しい遺構は残っていませんでしたが、地形的にはなるほどという感じの城跡でした^_^
