A good experience for the lazy to climb a mountain without climbing. 😂😂 Even so, there is a fair bit of stair climbing but the view is definitely well worth the effort. In comparison to the Hoover dam, this is much much more spectacular and much more better in setting. The surrounding mountains only add to the beauty of the dam. Getting up there is an experience too, having to catch an electric bus and also cable car and a mountain tram (funicular???). On the tram, for better photo opportunities I would suggest that you don't sit but stand right at the end or front as they can get pretty packed. This trip is still pretty hard going so I wouldn't recommend it for the really unfit or older people. When you reach the higher areas you will be over 4000m above sea level so some people may get a little altitude sickness with the exertion so take your time and take it easy. Funny enough, smokers seem to have an easier time up there as long as they don't smoke...
Read moreIt is in the Kurobe alpine route or also known as the Japanese Alps. I visited the route on the last day of April and the weather was excellent.
It took us over 4 hours by train and bus to reach the Kurobe Dam from Nagoya. The bus ride from Ogizawa to the Dam was about 15 minutes through a 6-Km tunnel. It was windy and cold on to of the dam.
There is an observation deck that provides a scenic view of the area & the Dam but it involves quite a bit of climbing. There's a kiosk where you can purchase some snacks. You can also have your photo taken at the Dam by the professional.
It's definitely worth a visit. The Dam would look different at different time of the year. It gives you a good reason for re-visiting the place again and again (^.*) you can walk over the top of the dam. There is also a boat that offers a 30-minute cruise around the reservoir. In the Rest House, there is a small gift shop and...
Read moreThe Kurabe Dam was amazing. They have an excellent view, especially in autumn. It is amazing to see the view from the Dam.
The view there was breathtaking, and the place is easy to get by bus from ogizawa station. Altough it little bit expensive from there, it takes 3000 yen something for an adult, half the price for children, but it is convenient to go there. The bus is an electric bus, they have a routine schedule. There are many buses to go to the dam and round trip. When you come to the dam bus station, you will choose between the easy way to get to the dam, or the observatory, who need more effort to go upside down. In around 200 steps stairs to go up.
But, one thing you should notice is about time they open the dum, it will finish around 15.30. So, you will not see the air come from dam after that.
However, it is really amazing...
