An excellent place for jogging, running, cycling and any other physical activity that requires a very long strip of flat road. The path is very wide for the most part, relatively level (only a small occasional climb every 10 km or so), and most importantly incredibly well maintained. There are a few slightly rougher spots that you need to be careful about when riding a road bike, but otherwise, most of it is in a better state than the majority of European highways. There is no issue with overtaking other cyclists or runners even if another person is coming in the opposite direction, so it is quite safe too. While there are, rather surprisingly, absolutely no vending machines with drinks that you may be used to from the more urban parts of Tokyo, there are many water fountains to drink from, about one of these every kilometre or so, typically accompanied by a gender-segregated toilet, so you should be fine in this regard even if you spend a long time there. Keep in mind that beside an occasional bridge, there is no shade on the path itself, so you may want to put on some sunscreen in the summer. There are, however, some small parks along the path, some even with benches to sit on, so you can rest there if you want. Along the path, there are also countless sports fields (for baseball, some other ball sports, and a sizable golf course). If you decide to go here, I hope you'll have a great...
Read moreRACCOON WARNING! I had ridden here on my bike on a Friday night at around 6:30 pm, it was already dark and I was just stopping to have a drink and something to eat mid ride. I was sitting down next to the fence when a Raccoon appeared beside me, sniffing at my chocolate pastry. It sniffed twice then bit me on the elbow. I hadn't done anything to entice or frighten it. It was a very light bite but I had to have an X-ray to check no teeth were left in the wound and now I'll have to have a series of Tetanus shots over several months. Rabbies apparently doesn't exist in Japan.
I've also nearly hit cats and Raccoons when riding the last 1 km here at night.
It's an okay spot to visit, no vending machines or seats. If you ride bikes you should go at least once.
Just be careful if you...
