Sadly very disappointing destination.
The "tour" is walking outside and learning how the brine is pumped up to the factory - not amazing.
There's a few windows to look down at laboratory type workers slowly moving things from one place to the next, nothing to see there and barely worth the effort to tilt one's head down to look.
However we came for the Cafe and ice cream! P
But no. That part of closed. No indication online that I saw to indicate there wouldn't be anywhere to sit and enjoy some ice cream.
The only thing that's open is the gift shop, which is very lackluster. The products I suppose were sodium in nature but were a mix of whole bunch of different things from all sorts of sellers. Tomato salt to biscuits to lumps of sugar with salt. There's a theme.
So you're really just driving here to spend 5 minutes pursuing a Ho-hum gift shop.
Not that the drive and viewpoint scenery aren't worth it...they are on their own spectacular.
From a short walk of a very nicely manicured trail there's a lookout point. If you're going over here then this is real treat (when you can't have ice cream) with an amazing view.
I would gave given it a 1 star but the view from the lookout managed to scrape in a second star.
Parking lot is generously sized too if I had to say something else positive. Staff were friendly enough and it wasn't busy at least - no...
Read moreI love salt. And I wanted to support a local Okinawa business. So when I went to the shop at the factory, I purchased many products to bring back as souvenirs. Spending well over US$100. But when I got back home and started using the soy sauce that I purchased at the salt factory, I noticed it had a deceptive air bladder built into it that you cannot see when the bottle is filled, but once you start to pour out some of the soy sauce, you realize that the bladder is filled with air and what looks to be a full bottle of soy sauce is actually about half filled by volume. Please see the picture that I have attached. I was just so disappointed to see this. It’s a deceptive practice that rips off consumers. Especially a consumer with good intentions wanting to support a local Okinawa business. And it also seems to be that in reality it would be more expensive to build a bottle with all this extra plastic Instead of just filling it with the actual soy sauce itself. Had anyone ever seen something like this on any package product? I would just say if you go to the salt factory buyer beware on any product that you may...
Read moreWe ended up here by accident because we were looking for Kafu Banta. We parked the car and decided to check it out since it looks like a lot of tourist dropped by. They have a souvenir shop and a cafe that serve hot food and desserts.
We did joined the short factory tour. Although everything is in Japanese but theres pictures with english explanation. The rest is pretty much easy to guess what the guide was trying to explain and inform. We get to see the salt room and workers working, its a pretty cool technique in collecting salt and its superfine like snow.
I tried the salt soft serve ice cream and a mango float and it tasted pretty good and refreshing on a sunny day. Also went home with some salt products and snacks. The salt they produce has higher minerals and less salty compare to...
