I have mixed emotions during my visit here. 😅 Joy, fear, and shock. 😅 Not much foreign tourists know about this ski place and the town of Wakasa. I just found it out from google so i am posting this review to give others an insight.
We travelled to this place hoping to experience snow and skiing for the first time. But, I think timing and weather also play a big role. Too bad, the snow is not yet enough for visitors to ski even though they partially opened the resort last December 2023. I also have no knowledge about ski resorts and snowing in Japan. We were just looking for a quieter and peaceful area away from other tourists so we really tried my luck in visiting this area.
We'll never forget the lady and gentleman from the tourisim office who was approachable and helped/informed us how to get there. She also apologized at first because she told us that there's not enough snow when we asked about how to get to the ski resort. And we said that it was fine. So we still ended up going in there. To be honest, I'm not really sure about skiing because all I wanted was just to see snow. I've never seen snow in my life.
I was really happy because while on the road, I was amazed by the tunnels and pine trees and there are signs of snow in the area. I just couldn't believe in my eyes. When the bus driver dropped us to the skii resort, I was shocked to see that it was closed. (Don't try going in here without a company).
Though, surprised and scared that there's literally no other visitors and open establishments, I am glad to share that I first touched a snow from Wakasa. 😍🌨️⛄ Although, I didn't experience skiing and other snow activities, I'll just go back in here! I love the peaceful town of Wakasa.
Transportation: Train from Tottori Station to Wakasa station (about 1 hr, ~¥700 no IC cards) and then from Wakasa station, make a few walks to the bus terminal (beside the supermarket and Tourism Office) and ride the van/bus to Tsukoyone (about 20-30 minutes, ¥100) and vise versa. Be mindful of the schedule and time table as the Wakasa transportation closes early.
It would be an advantage if you or your companion speaks Japanese.
