Hottarakashi Camping Ground — Attraction in Yamanashi

We are from Australia and travelling through Japan in a rental camper. We happend upon this place while looking for somewhere different along with an Onsen that was tattoos friendly. The drive up the mountain was quite unexpected but wow what a view. We did not have a prior arrangement and by chance there were cancellation because of rain so we got a spot. The staff were super friendly and very accommodating. We snagged a camp-site at the top of what it turns out to be a campground terraced into the side of the mountain looking directly at Mt Fujisan approx 25km away across the valley Perfect for a vehicle and power available if required. The ground might be a bit hard and rocky if you're camping in a tent but the place was consistently full with prepared campers anyway. There are camp kitchens and available toilets dotted around the area. All clean and no rubbish to be seen. The whole place is clean and tidy. There is a small rustic little whisky bay with 100 different types of whisky available, although I prefer to try the local whiskey they have over the big named brands. There is a little coffee shop Cafe perched high on the campground with stunning views towards Mt Fujisan and some basic supplies available at the little reception area The Onsen of the same name is about a 10 minute walk directly down across from the campground. The night time view from the outdoor Onsen hotpool looking out across the city is great. There is a small restaurant, basic little shop that sells local wines etc at the Onsen. If you are road tripping your way around and want a great place to stay you should absolutely book ahead and stay at this place. An unexpected gem and a highlight of some of the areas...

綺麗な夜景に遠くには富士山、そして徒歩圏内にはほったらかし温泉がある高規格キャンプ場です。それ故に人気が出ないはずがなく、予約開始日にはサーバーがダウンし、まともに繋がったと思ったら土曜日だけでなく平日含めて埋まっている恐ろしいキャンプ場です。恐らく日本一予約が取れないキャンプ場では無いでしょうか。

そんな激しい予約戦争を幸運にも勝ち抜いて10月の土曜日から2泊3日、はなれサイトにて利用しました。口コミもほぼ高評価で埋まり、YouTubeやブログでも絶賛の嵐。否が応でも期待は膨らんでいきました。

そして迎えた当日。嬉しいことに天気は快晴で遠くの富士山もハッキリと見えました。甲府の街並みを見下ろす眺めは評判通りで夜への期待が高まり、上機嫌で設営を開始しようとしたその時、想定外のことに気づきました。

あれ？ 意外とサイトが狭くない？

そうです、区画サイトが思いのほか狭かったんです。HPに記載されているサイズは7m×9mで体感的に間違ってはいませんでした。

が、しかし。 それまで利用してきたキャンプ場はフリーのオートサイトがほとんどであり、区画サイトでも10m×10m級だったのでサイズ感を完全に見誤っていました。

ギリギリまで車を端に停めてテントとタープ間も狭めて張ることで何とかなりましたが、だいぶ窮屈なレイアウトになりました。ツールームや大型のシェルターならそれだけで埋まってしまうでしょうね。

また、いくつかの口コミでも触れられていた砂埃に関して。覚悟はしていましたが予想以上に苦労させられました。まず、歩けば確実に砂埃は舞い上がり、直接地面に置こうものならあらゆるものが砂まみれになります。

山の斜面に作られていて遮るものが無いので風の影響を受ける事が多く、そういう日には一瞬で全身砂まみれになります。事実、私もそうなりました。

ブログやYouTubeで見たように夜景を眺めながらのんびり食事をと考えていましたが、残念ながらこの砂埃がとてつもなくストレスになるのでそんな余裕はありませんでした。肝心の食事もまるで砂抜きしていないアサリを食べてるのかと思うほど砂混じりです…。

食事を終えたあとは幾分か風が収まり、ゆっくりと焚き火が出来ました。そうして眺めた夜景は評判通り綺麗で、この時ばかりは砂埃のストレスを忘れて過ごすことが出来ました。サイトから見る夜景も綺麗でしたが、散歩がてら訪れたcafe山歩から見る夜景は高所故に遮るものが無く一段と綺麗でした。是非こちらにも足を運んでみてください。

翌日にはほったらかし温泉を堪能し、少し下ったところにあるフルーツ公園で昼食を済ませてのんびり過ごしました。こうした施設が近くにあるのも高評価の一因ですね。昨今のコロナ禍では温浴施設を閉鎖してるキャンプ場が多いので、ゆっくりお風呂に入れるのは助かりました。

さて、色々と描きましたが、個人的にはリピートしたいかと聞かれると答えは"No"です。

■オリジナルグッズ含め豊富な品ぞろえの売店 ■夜景も星空も富士山も堪能出来る環境 ■綺麗な水まわり施設 ■気さくなスタッフさん ■恵まれた近隣施設

と、高評価な点は多くありますが、それらを上回る砂埃のストレスが辛かったです。車、テント、タープ、チェア、テーブル、服と、あらゆる物が砂まみれになり、帰宅後はその汚れを落とす作業に疲れ果てました。

現在拡張しているサイトにも同じ砂が撒かれているので、今後レンガチップなどに置き換わる事もないのでしょう。故に私がリピートする事はありません。

もし、何年かして砂埃問題が解決されていれば改めて利用したいと思います。その時にはキャンプブームも過ぎ去って予約も取りやすくなって...
