Welcome to the Milky Way Galaxy Railway main line. I just love it when imagination is tucked into reality. This is the Yoron train station, and as the sign indicates, you may be able to travel as far as the stars; yet there are no trains, and the railroad doesn't extend beyond the station. Still, it's easy to imagine an etherial railway extending from Kagoshima to Okinawa, skipping across the ocean. Since the island is also a hot spot for star-gazing, the Milky Way connection makes further sense. This "station" is definitely worth the visit. It's not far from the airport, and walking distance from some of the accommodations on the western side of the island. More than just the station and donated tracks from Kagoshima is a gorgeous beach and a pretty incredible walking path set up on the rocks that winds along the coast. You could easily spend a couple of hours here. This is an excellent place to see the sun rise and set as well. I was here before and during sunrise, and though it was overcast, the sky still had some...

Yoron Station is a whimsical “station monument” on Yoron Island, despite the island having no railway. Officially named the “Milky Way Galaxy Railway Main Line Yoron Station,” it features a short stretch of track, train wheels, and a station sign, creating the playful illusion of a real stop. Just beyond lies a beach known as Fubama, with the brilliant “Yoron Blue” sea as its backdrop. On clear days, you can even see Okinawa’s main island in the distance, and sunsets here paint the sky and water in warm orange hues. The station connects to the scenic Bido Promenade, a cliffside walking path leading to Koniya Port, offering dramatic coastal views. Located close to both the airport and the port, it’s an easy detour during your trip—a small but charming spot that blends Yoron’s sense of humor with its...
