This museum should be supported more by the Jersey tourist board. We visited last Thursday on rainy day and was fascinated with the amount of history of every day life on the Jersey island during occupation. The owner was very welcoming & knowledgable when asked questions. His collection is huge and as he said a fraction of what he has amassed over the years. He really needs a larger space for his huge collection but could only achieve this with the backing of the tourist board and people visiting. The war tunnels gets huge visitation and is great BUT this museum offers more. You leave with a real feeling of what the occupation was really like for the actual people of the island as well as the German soldiers. Especially with the stories of the child given a carved wooden boat from a soldier at the end of occupation as he thought the English was coming to shoot him. Please support this museum by just visiting it you will not be disappointed IF you are interested in the...
Read moreWhat a stunning hidden gem. A lovingly operated museum that welcomes the visitor and recreates a feeling of the occupation of the island with first hand experienced from both sides. The attention to the museum equipment and layout is spot on creating a real feeling of life in the bunker whilst compiling a comprehensive experience of the war years. Many photos and little touches for serious history buffs like myself with huge detail provided in the displays. Seeing all the equipment and repair kits and necessary tools of war shows the size of what was achieved during a difficult period. Proprietor was a wonderfully friendly gentleman who put me completely at ease. So much to see in a relatively small museum but excellent value for...
Read moreA small but perfectly formed museum housing a remarkable range of artefacts considering the space available. It was a salutary experience to visit a bunker that's in something like original condition, as the hundreds of others I've visited have been stripped of everything leaving no impression of how they would have been. The guy on the ticket office was also very friendly and helpful.
I first tried to visit about 5 years ago, but it was out of season by a week, and closed, so I was pleased to actually get in this time.
If this is 10% of the owner's collection then I'd love to...
