A lovely venue with plenty to see and do around the site. The gardens are easily navigated with many benches on which to rest. The pathways are clear although there are rough or difficult ones to follow if you choose. Some plants have names to identify them but the vast majority don't which is a pity as I would like to think we can be educated as well as being entertained. The cafe on site is staffed by some of the nicest people I've ever met who provide an excellent service and, more's to the point, the food is good quality too. Don't expect 'haute cuisine' but it is worth trying. The shop captures us on entry and exit and has the usual collection of 'stuff'. The lady I met there on arrival in the morning was open and friendly. I can't say the same for the lady who was there when we left but if that is the only negative then that's nothing to worry about. All in all I reckon that if you want to sit down and relax whilst meandering through the grounds, utilise the children's playground, try and spy some of the fish in the murky waters, see different fruit trees and bushes or sit down with a nice lunch and cooling drink (or hot one) then this is the place to spend 4-5hrs. Love it!

Calling this a botanic gardens with an arboretum is stretching the truth a little. However it is a pleasant way to spend a few hours and they have a nice cafe with good cakes. The Japanese garden and waterfall in three levels is very pretty. The walled herb garden and fruit garden are really nice. If you want to extend your visit you can pay five pounds extra to visit the house. It costs ten pounds to get in. They don't tell you that you can get annual membership and take another person free of charge. That might depend on who takes your money in the shop, which is full of the usual expensive stuff plus a range of unusual world heritage plant seeds.

I both my first annual membership here in beautifully stocked shop last week, It's absolutely worth every penny and more, just £30 for the whole year, and you can bring a friend and/or littlen's too. There are so many beautiful features in this luscious large space and easy access everywhere. I constantly become mesmerised by the herb garden and the information on every plant sharing it's medicinal healing powers. The experience is always good, the cafe and outdoor seating area is adorable, the perfect pitstop to help you spend the whole day there. Thumbs up all the way! Sharon

Stunning place. Fell inlove with the different areas that appealed to every bit of me from the Asian style water scenes to the children's playground. It's perfect for all ages. Our son loved the friendly duckies and horse Archie in the stable block. We enjoyed the view from the stand, the water feature gardens the fruit trees, shrubs and even took shelter from the rain in the tolberones. Beautiful manicured gardens and the shop a treasure trove with lovely unique gifts...I loved the metal hanging bats. Staff friendly and helpful. Cafe was charming. Look forward to going back.

This place is so beautiful, peaceful and in such a great location. It is also very accessible with a bus stop and car park. I went around the gardens, grounds and also paid extra for the guided house tour, which was well worth the money and given by a very knowledgeable guide. I enjoyed the walled gardens and had a lovely meal at the café. However, my favourite part was the Japanese garden and I took this photo below there:

Extensive gardens in various styles including Italian and Japanese with some nice water features. There is a particularly interesting garden focused on bees with numerous types of apple and pear trees. There is also a good cafe with garden seating serving very nice cakes. The impressive house is also worth looking around on a guided tour which is worth the extra charge. Overall a good way to spend at least 2-3 hours.
