Read morePlease be aware of the deals you make with the service providers at Dunga beach. I went there by myself, agreed on a boat trip to Ndere island with a guide. Be sure you know the cost of every part of the trip: 1) boat ride; 2) entry fee; etc. The provider didn't know how Ndere Island operated, so I accepted the price on the expectation to witness wildlife with a support of a guide. No guide was around, and at the end they said most of the amount was for the 3 hours boat ride, while for me the amount was only worth it if I could see the animals. Don't pay in advance, say you don't have enough cash, so that when you return, you can at least make sure that your money isn't wasted (they can go with you to town to withdraw money). I know local people live from these trips, but they are offering a service they know nothing about, playing around with you, as if they aren't responsible for the service they offer, and in my case, putting me and the boat riders in life threatning situations. The boat riders were boat amazing people, not responsible for the poor arrangements the business owners...
Read moreWe came for a boat ride and it was amazing. We were a group of 20 and had to take two boats out. We had one guide and had to stop both boats at the same time to make sure everyone got the same tour. Saw Tilapia fish farming in aqua cages, an 8yr old technology that is restoring lake Victoria waters after overfishing and hyacinth left the lake unproductive. Managed to spot a pod of hippos, even saw two little Hippo babies 🦛That was pretty cool! Stopped over at Dunga Hill Camp for a cold one and to stretch our legs, before heading back out. I highly recommend that you carry a large sun hat, sunscreen, sunglasses and drinking water. It gets pretty pretty hot out there and the reflection from the lake can hurt your eyes. Beware of taking photos at the beach prior to boarding, the photographers are territorial and will charge you about KES 50 to take a photo even on your phone. If you’re not into boat rides, I suggest you do a morning tour, between 9-10am when the waters are calm ... very peaceful ride. Evening waters after 5pm can get a bit rough. Finally, remember...
