Kongoni lodge is a place we visited before

We booked a cottage with 2 bedrooms for my mother and ourselves (couple) as husband was doing mtb race - this was confirmed 4 weeks in advance

The night before the race we headed to kongoni lodge for the night. My driver also called the lodge to book his accommodation there. We arrived at 7pm. Front desk gave us welcome drinks, hot towels took our passports and made us fill up the forms

But just before passing the keys she casually informed us that we will only have 1 bedroom for 3 of us and the other room in the same cottage was already occupied by a sick traveler who will depart next morning:

We obviously jumped. Firstly There was ample time for the hotel to contact us before we arrived at 7pm and inform us so we can make alternative arrangements - the roads leading to kongoni werr bad and this was was a pure waste of time especially when everyone is exhausted after the ride from Nairobi

Secondly to make us fill up forms, provide them passports then tell us the news was not acceptable. This could have been said upfront vs after all admin

In addition the female desk manager was not honest - she stated repeatedly she couldn’t get hold of us. We didn’t get any missed calls.

Also there is email, phone options? my driver confirmed he spoke to the lady manager to reconfirm his own room booking and even received 2 phone calls that day to enquire about the time we were supposed to arrive

Finally after we protested about sharing a cottage with a sick traveler - she reluctantly offered an option for us to move to another hotel but we have to make our way there, check out in the following morning and move the stuff ourselves back to Kongoni it would cost us 10,000 kes but we had to pay kongoni directly. An arrangement we couldn’t figure why

This was not feasible as husband was racing the following morning 7am till 3pm I was to follow the race as well. This meant we had to pack by 6am and check out from the hotel and mode stuff over to kongoni. Before going to the race Then unpack again at the new room at their lodge assuming the guest recovers.

We are appalled at how this was being managed - the lack of honest and upfront communications.

Finally the lady assured us she would be on standby to assist

We tried calling back when we were at the replacement hotel to find rooms for ourselves

Needless to say the kongoni front desk never picked up our calls

I am appalled how they had treated and dumped us without any remorse, or attempt to help us despite this massive glitch.

Till today none of them even called to apologize to us

I will never recommend them to anyone and urge all to rethink as well at this unprofessional, irresponsible and...

We came to Kongoni lodge as a couples safari trip. Kongoni lodge is located next to Lake Olodien, which is a smaller lake next to Lake Naivasha.

We have had the best time and experience ever. The service that this lodge offers is gold standard and I cannot recommend them enough. We are both vegetarian and the chef came up with a new menu everyday to suit our requirements with HUGE portions sizes.

Everyone was incredibly attentive and the hotel grounds were kept to a very high standard (clean rooms, pool, well maintained plants) - the staff work incredibly hard to maintain the grounds and this pays off as the area looks immaculate.

Prior to our trip we messaged Bilha who works in Kongoni who gave us the recommendation of Steve - he was our driver during our time in Lake Navaisha who picked us up from Nairobi Airport and returned us to Nairobi. He was our driver to Nakuru & hells gate and had very knowledgeable tour guides - Steve in Hells Gate & John in Nakuru. He was always on time and very accommodating. Bilha also recommended Aden who is a local guide who gave us a bird watching tour of the area and he was the most knowledgeable man and just spending a couple of hours with him I felt like Iearnt lots! If you come here definitely ask for these people as you will have an incredible time.

This place superseded any expectation I had of Kenya and I do sincerely hope you read this review and decide to book with...

Unfortunately this was my least favourite lodge but there were good and bad points: The good: The furniture in the rooms was beautiful, all carved solid wood. The pool is well kept and clean. It has a great view over lake Naivasha. The gift shop is very good value, we brought most of our gifts from there. They have a very good selection of drinks. The bad: The mosquito net over our bed had lots of holes in it and didn't reach the floor. The bathrooms felt quite dated and poorly kept compared to other lodges. And it was the only place we stayed which did not have a mosquito net over the bathroom window, meaning you couldn't leave it open. It was one of the few places that did table service rather than buffet which would be fine, but I found the meals to be quite disappointing. They were presented very decoratively, but I found several of the starters to be quite bland and the steak was overcooked and tough. To their credit the vegetarian pasta was the opposite, looked bland but tasted very good. Prior to buying items from the gift shop we were told they could be securely wrapped, however after paying it turns out they couldnt. They said they would find some materials and pack in the morning but then forgot which was just a bit frustrating. So overall I think my experience was okay but not as good as the other lodges. My mum however loved the furniture so much that this was her favourite so each to their own.

This was a luxurious quaint stay experience that i loved the most in the entire kenya trip. Privacy is the upmost importance if you value this over other factors . We got a villa in a serene corner that was 100 percent privacy driven. Villa with amazing log work, jacuzzi, spacious and just beautifully made. There was a personal splash pond which was also very private hidden in the bushes with the lake view. You have to walk to the restaurant for your food which was a little far but great weather and you would love to walk in the nature path . Room service was not superb like the other stays . Food had limited options but authentic. Reception is also a little far. But overall if privacy and enjoying the nature is main rest you wont mind. Earlier we were skipping the whole naivasha experience thinking after the mara nothing would feel great and rather go for the beaches .But thankfully we included this spot. Crescent lake as well as the bike ride in the park was a one off experience. So was the weather. The beach side was just humid and these places near the equator had amazing weather in february. If an indian travelling with kids or elder then consider accordingly for the walking and food options. Otherwise , definitely recommended.
