The museum itself is like a relic of the past, it's very old and in need of repair, but in that way, it's a memorable place to visit. It's designed to tell the story of Savannakhet from prehistory through the Communist revolution, but it can be confusing because the order you're supposed to walk through is not clear. I was surprised that so many ancient artifacts would be found in this small area. The room dedicated to the 1960s-70s civil war era is the most shocking and saddening, a reminder of a very painful part of this country's history. Be warned that it is a bit propagandistic and if you are American or French, you may not like the tone of what is presented, but it's the truth.
