Visited both - nature museum and Alūksnes museum (same castle/different entrances).
Nature museum and their shiny rocks is a must see. If you're thinking - "shiny rocks, there is nothing special about shiny rocks" - YOU ARE SO WRONG! THEY ARE AMAZING!
We visited only the temporary expositions in the Alūksnes museum. They were made more special and interesting with the commentary from the guide.

He showed us around and the human touch of the visit just left our hearts filled with warmth and joy on this foggy and rainy day. And the cherry on top of the cake was that they allowed us to enter with our dog, an english bulldog and also that they had a sheet of paper for the exponents in Estonian. Read moreIt seems like an ordinary local history museum, but the exhibitions are interesting, well structured, with easy-to-understand explanations of the exhibits. Replicas of historical objects that can be touched. Kids should love it. Thanks to the museum employee, the guy who sold the tickets, but also kindly gave us a brief introduction to the museum and also waited a little after the museum's opening hours while we watched the multimedia show....
