One of the best castle tours in Lithuania. The main palace is a museum housing artifacts from the stone age to modern history. The museum is organized by historical periods - from Commonwealth to Czarist Russia, independent Lithuania and Soviet times, giving authentic sense of atmosphere in each period from the unique perspective of Birzai, which was a Duchy for a long time. Its not too formal and plenty of household items from musical instruments of each period to photos and paintings give a good sense what it was like to live during these times. Don't miss the virtual reenactment at a side building "Arsenalas" how the castle was taken by swedes 300 years ago during Swedish wars and subsequently destroyed.

Beautiful castle with a large museum exhibition. Entrance is €5 per person and you get to visit the museum which has three floors and the arsenal building located right next to the castle. The exhibition was interesting. The organisation of the exhibits could have been better. Also, there’s not so much history that would be specific to the Biržai region. The video in the arsenal building is poorly made. After spending 15 min watching the film we were left with so many questions. Overall it was a great 2 hours spent wandering around the museum and its beautiful garden.

Important note: this is first of all a museum - a really good one. As a castle is really nothing special because of very simplistic design and not so perfect condition. Still, for only 5€ you can see a lot of Lithuanian history in one place and that makes it worth it. I wish they would fill the ditch surrounding the castle with water, it is very rare these days to find this type of fortifications. I could also see they are working on some outdoor things which will only make it better in the future.

Entrance ticket cost to Castle inside where is located museum- 5eur. Around castle is nice and well maintained garden with nice view to lake. The museum is old fashioned with exposition which consist almost only on all kind of old stuff and junk. Nothing entertaning. Castle interior is plain, if you enjoy architecture or interior, inside there is not nothing impressive and worth seeing. The best view and experience is exterior and garden with amazing location.

Did not visit the castle from inside but from out it looks splendid with a pleasant green garden and walkway. Have an ice-cream at the cart just outside. The ginger flavoured one is hot and nice. The black Berry one has lots of fruit in it. Loved it. The castle premises is surrounded by water bodies-lakes I think, again with lovely paths to walk on. Bucolic. A perfect picnic spot.
