The lady in the tourist office advised us to visit this site, and we were well-rewarded! Extremely interesting phenomenon of the moving sand dune, of such enormous size that the town of Nida had to be moved away to a new location, and the old one was covered. The abruptness of change of the vegetation, from the planted pine forests to stop the advance of the dune, to small shrubs to totally bare fine sand was very impressive.
