This castle is really worth a vist! It is the home to local orgabisations, clubs and some campuses as well as 3 museums. All museums are accessed with 1 ticket for adults EUR 6,50 and free for people under 21. At the end of the visit you get a complimentary beer to taste, with the possibility to taste a beer that is produced in the castle itself! Histoire du Château de Wiltz : Au cœur des Ardennes Luxembourgeoises que l'on appelle Oesling. Le nom de Wiltz est mentionné dans des documents très ancien (plus de 1150 ans déjà). C'est au treizième siècle que les seigneurs de Wiltz cherchent à s'installer sur un site propice à la construction d'un château sur un éperon rocheux. Ils firent construire la première fortification dans la vallée, mais ne procurait pas assez de sécurité en raison des nombreuses disputes entre le Comte de Luxembourg et les seigneurs environnant et il était trop exposé aux pillages. La vénération du comte Jean VI n'est pas due au hasard sous son règne de 1607 à 1648. C'est en l'an 1631 que commença la construction du château sous sa forme actuelle. La guerre de Trente ans, les épidémies, la famine retardèrent sa construction. Le bâtiment central ne fut terminé que vers 1720 , soit un siècle plus tard. Le dernier Comte de Wiltz Théodore François de Paule de Custine quitta Wiltz en 1793, fuyant devant les troupes révolutionnaires Françaises et mourut en Allemagne à Bamberg en 1799, toutes ses propriétés furent confisquées et vendues.
