A wonderfully natural and super lush tropical botanical garden. There is NO ENTRANCE FEE at the Penang tropical garden as well. Uniquely different from the equally excellent KL and Singapore tropical gardens. This garden is a more natural, more lush, and not nearly as well manicured garden as either the KL garden or the Singapore gardens. That is precisely its charm! There are loads of trails winding through various displays and presentations. Walkers, hikers, and joggers seem to enjoy the multitude of trails. Monkeys are EVERYWHERE. There are displays of herb gardens, orchid gardens, fern displays, aeroid trails, and much more. The original gardens were established in 1884 from an old quarry site, under the supervision of Charles Curtis, who was the first superintendent, making it one of the oldest botanic gardens built by the British in a colonial settlement. Penang Botanic Gardens is part of Penang Hill Biosphere Reserve, recognized by UNESCO as the third Biosphere Reserve in Malaysia listed in the World Network of Biosphere Reserve (WNBR).[2] Currently, 12-2024, there is construction of a cable car system taking place, which limits access at the very beginning of the road leading into the garden. Restrooms 🚻 are limited. Handicap doable in many areas. Some areas are paved roughly and might present issues for those who are unsteady at walking.. Final take...HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Be prepared to gain elevation as this garden winds uphill through super lush tropical canyons. There is a restaurant serving fresh coconut near the entrance. A total godsend after a day exploring these wonderful gardens.

Awesome green lung space in Penang. It can get really crowded on weekends and public holidays. We went quite early in the morning by Grab and thankfully so. It was teeming and drivers were desperately looking for parking spaces. We got off near the gate and it was quite crowded inside too. Once you're in and walking there is ample space and the greenery takes over the senses. It is a beautiful space. Trees and plants from all over the world. Many are labelled quite well. There are benches and gazebos as well where one can rest and catch ones breath. The gardens are quite well maintained and the cleaners are already on duty early in the day. So are the monkeys. Food inside is a strict no-no with these mischievous little fellas on the prowl. The flowers are a sight to behold as were the lotus ponds. We will keep coming back regularly, if possible on weekdays. Fresh air is such a wonderful thing and so is this verdant space in Penang.

I’m so proud of the Botanical Garden who has the AED machines at every corner . What’s is AED ? An AED, or automated external defibrillator, is used to help those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. It's a sophisticated, yet easy-to-use, medical device that can analyze the heart's rhythm and, if necessary, deliver an electrical shock, or defibrillation, to help the heart re-establish an effective rhythm. This device is so useful for places like this as not many people know how to perform a CPR . Kudos to the management . This place is really nice for a walk . Spacious and full of tress . But hardly can find flowers here . Overall this place is nice and there are many monkeys too but they are harmless . But remember do not feed to monkeys not because we are scare of the monkeys will chase after you but the authorities will . There will be a fine of Rm500 impose on you if you are caught to feed the monkeys .

Absolutely love it. You can hike to Bukit Pramuka from this garden, the path seemed well maintained (I only went up for half an hour before going back down so I'm not really sure about the rest of the path, casual shoes not recommended). There were a lot of people exercising or just relaxing. This garden is amazing. There were a lot of monkeys (I saw two types, one was the usual brown monkeys the other was the monkeys with white fur and blacks surrounding their eyes (beautiful and didn't attack people). You should bring sufficient amount of water (there's a vending machine not far from the entrance but they don't sell mineral water, just sports drinks and coffee if I remember correctly). Please don't throw your trash (however small) anywhere other than inside the trash bins. The monkeys eat anything they find (saw them pick up gum and plastic wrapper and put it in their mouths).

City lung. Very fresh air especially in the morning. Early vusitors came in as early as 6.30am ~ control time due to Covid. Almost every body behave and observe Social Distance. Yet, there is a group of 7 or 8 people walking in a row ~ shoulder touching shoulder~occupying whole width of road , endangering themselves and others of getting the covid. Malaysia is opened up, more crowds came in and early as 5 something morning. No need to have restrictions of visitors. However, Botanic Garden open only at 6am (new). No more mask. Update Nov 22. Gate open earlier. Not rigidly at 6 am. Been there 5.50am, gate opened. Updates : Jan 23 Not much changes, the uncivilized group of walkers still stubbornly walk in a row horizontally forcing on coming walkers to avoid them by moving to the side.
