It was better than expected. We went around 11am on a school holiday weekday, so it was much cheaper (self-tour). We didn't buy from Klook (have to purchase at least 1 day before), because we were unsure of the weather and also want to use our OKU cards for discount at the counter. It's slightly cheaper to buy on Klook.
Some tips:
Mosquitoes are expected, so we wore long pants and socks + shoes, and applied repellants beforehand. The counter also gave us their own repellant spray which I think helped too. Bring a portable mini fan or hand fan if u have children. Expect to sweat a lot.
Bring a small towel/cloth along. At the fish spa area, you can remove your shoes & socks to dip your feet. The towel will become handy to dry your wet feet before u wear back your socks.
Bring own water bottles. They do not have water dispenser, so you need to drink your own water. They do have a free drink station (near the fish spa area) with their self-made cold drink made from herbs, but my children didn't like the taste. I loved it though. Drank quite a lot of it, so refreshing.
The counter gave us booklets and packet spices (for compounding at a station) for children to do activities around the garden, which was quite fun even for adults. Learnt quite a few things. There are also slides and a giant swing in the garden, suitable for kids who like outdoors.
Look out for a tall Pinang tree (Pulau Pinang/Penang was named after this type of tree). Remember to take picture with it!
Do check out the weather before you go. You went on a cloudy day, so it was great! Not raining, and not too hot.
For elderlies, bring a walking aid (tongkat) with you as there are steps and slopes around. Not suitable for stroller/wheelchair.
You can go out for lunch, and come back again to continue exploring the garden. Just have to keep your wristband on.
Overall, it was...
Read moreA wonderful visit not longer than two hours— must-do if you're with a large family (We are a family of 8). Upon entering, you will be offered free bug-repellant (lemongrass) oil. If you choose to go with the guided tour, which I greatly recommend, you're immensely lucky if Elaine is your guide! Miss Elaine is such a sweetheart, she made our experience unforgettable with her eagerness to teach and bubbly personality. I felt as though I was strolling around alongside a friend, not a tour guide. Extremely knowledgeable on both her own culture and others', Miss Elaine was able to perfectly explain and illustrate the origins, uses, and implications of each and every plant we came across. Do not worry if you are visiting with toddlers, the hike has many alternative paths for those with mobility issues, including little adventurers.
You will be delighted by the myriad of scents and tastes around you— with complimentary shots of refreshing pandan tea halfway through your trek through the lush, vibrant forest. On the way through, you will meet the most adorable inhabitants of the Malaysian forest, ranging from monkeys to bats to snakes!
All around, a very pleasant and easy experience! Do visit the Tropical Spice Garden! (PS. The Gift Shop products are...

This garden winds its various paths up a very lush and green valley. There are several different trails that highlight the various types of tropical plants found in the forests on Penang island with a focus on spices, herbs, and fruits. Lots of learning stations challenging children and adults . Explanations and lessons on biodiversity are plentiful. Photo ops are available everywhere. There's even a fish massage area on one of the creeks flowing through the garden. Gentle, tiny, collagen nibbling fish cluster around bare toes and soles of your feet as you sit with your legs dangling in this stream. There is a gift shop at the entrance to the TSG. A refreshment haven specializing in coffee is located at the far lower end of TSG. There are 2 restrooms located on the property. Rustic but functional . !!!!!!!Handicap access is very challenging if not impossible !!!!!!!¡ Steep, narrow, slippery trails will make this daunting at best. A better option is the Penang Botanical Garden! Bus stop located directly in front of the garden. Final take......
