Bus. Bus take so long to get to the bus stop, they always late. Sometimes they change their routes. The bus driver also not very friendly. If we took bus to the train, they would ask us to leave the bus as soon as it reach the train. Even though they are passing all the Kolej Kediaman that we need to go to before they park their bus. They won't tolerate. It really the worst experience to walk from the train to my Kolej Kediaman.
Kolej Kediaman. For anyone who wants to study here, I recommend you to stay off campus rather than in campus. Because, the fees to stay is almost the same but with bad facilities as you need to share the same bedroom with a person. Share toilets with people who live on the same level. At the end of each semester, they need you to check out the room. All your things need to be removed from the room to a storage. And the bad news are if the storage were located at the highest level of the building. And it is not guaranteed that your things will be safe, some might be stolen. If not by the people who can easily enter and exits the storage, your stuff might be ruin by the monkeys. If you join Kolej Kediaman's whatsapp group, or someone knock your door, just remember "NEVER" lend anything to anyone, they might ruin your things and pretend it is not their doing. One more thing about Kolej Kediaman, they sometimes knock your door and ask for money. It is weird for them to ask for extra money as we pay enough to stay there. Can't they use the money that we pay to stay to cover whatever activities that they are doing for the Kolej Kediaman?
Lecturer. Some lecturer are good and some are truly evil. They will shame you in front of everyone. They will scold you and demotivated you all the time. It not fine even though each and everyone in the class were being scolded. The problem are the lectures who just can't accepting students ideas.
Overall, it is not worth it to study here, if you are Malaysian's malay or bumiputera, you better study at UiTM, it is far cheaper to study there. Here, it is expensive, plus bad experiences. So, not worth it. If you study in UiTM, it is cheaper, even though with bad experiences still you are not wasting your money. If you stay in UiTM's Kolej Kediaman the cheapest rate are RM210 for one semester. If you stay here the cheapest rate are RM420 for one semester. That is the cheapest (undergraduate). Mine is RM900 for one semester (postgraduate) this is what I mean that you better choose to stay off campus. Same type of room with undergraduate but extremely high fees. If you are Malaysian Chinese or Indian maybe this university is a good start for you. Good luck.
If you are not Malaysian, beware that the lectures and talks are all in Malay. Most of your classmates as well will done their reports in Malay. While you, you alone need to hear talks/lectures in Malay but reports in English. Good luck for that. As I can see in my class, only one out of five international student that finish their study. But again, it still bad experience for them, as they need to take Bahasa Melayu as a mandatory subjects and it ruin their schedule to take all same subjects with local students. So be prepare to have the same class with the juniors or...
Read moreQuite a hostile and discriminatory environment for non-local students. Unfortunately, the university is so vastly different than what's advertised. They are not prepared to deal with international students at all. During my four years here, I faced countless amount of issues with my visa due to their poor departments coordination. Once you finish your studies you will be asked to leave the country even before receiving your transcript and certificate. Horrible student experience.
Also, be careful not to get scammed during the visa process by them, because many have. Make sure all your dealings with them is through email in writings. During your studies, an international students coordinator will be assigned to you, but won't be helpful much. No one seems to be trained on how to deal with international students issues, you will feel lost and excluded from all important notifications that local students receive.
As for teaching aspects in Information Technology related majors (took a 4years Software Engineering course), their professors have poor communication skills and teaching abilities. With outdated courses and professors out of touch with current industry practices, you will face a huge load of useless repetitive assignments that keep you busy, but without any practical knowledge. If your plan is to spend your whole life in academia and continue your masters, phd, work career in UKM, then yeah go for UKM, they will love you there. But if you have bigger ambitions, UKM will make sure to waste 4 years of your life and keep you distracted from self-study over...
Read moreUKM please upgrade your overall service to be deserving as the top university in Malaysia: Poor in new student recruitment admin, student applied in May 2023, until today (9th October 2023) still haven't received student visa approval. Today is the first day of new intake, which means the student definitely will either register late for this semester, or have to delay his intake until October 2024, just because of lousy management of UKM.
Poor hostel management system for new students. It is almost impossible to reserve a hostel room for new students, hence new students have to look for hostel on their own without much assistance.
Poor building maintenance, very run down buildings and facility. The pictures were taken at Bangunan Wawasan, which is the place where the UKM Holdings and the visa department is. Come on, this is where all International Students receive their first impression on UKM, but this building is as run down as other buildings in the campus. There is no aircond in this area, super hot, students queueing there to submit their visa application or collect their passports, there was only ONE tiny little window open for the students. Come on, you know this is new student intake week, can't your office prepare more helpers to assist the new students?
Not a good overall experience for foreigners...
