While Pulau Ketam is dotted with various Chinese temples, the island is not renowned for a dedicated "Snake Temple" in the same vein as the famous one in Penang. Visitors often mention seeing a large snake kept in a cage at one of the island's many temples, leading to some confusion or perhaps a casual reference as "the snake temple." This particular temple, often referred to as the most frequented house of worship on Pulau Ketam, is dedicated to the deified Buddhist monk Master Qingshui (Chor Soo Kong). It's a significant spiritual site for the local community, attracting devotees from both within Malaysia and beyond. The presence of a live snake, often a python, is an intriguing element that draws curiosity. It's usually housed in an enclosure outside or within the temple grounds, and while it's a talking point, the temple's primary purpose is religious devotion to Master Qingshui. So, while you won't find a temple teeming with snakes like the one in Penang, you can certainly visit a temple on Pulau Ketam where a large snake is part of its unique charm. It offers a glimpse into local beliefs and practices, and for many, it's an unexpected and memorable highlight of their island exploration. Remember to be respectful of the sacred space and...
