World of Phalaenopsis in Ulu Yam is truly a gem for anyone who appreciates the delicate beauty of orchids. Nestled amidst the lush greenery of Ulu Yam, it offers a refreshing escape from the city bustle, focusing purely on its stunning collection of Phalaenopsis (moth) orchids.
Upon arrival, you're greeted by rows upon rows of meticulously cared-for orchids in various stages of bloom. The sheer variety is impressive, from classic whites and purples to more exotic patterns and colours, making it a feast for the eyes and a paradise for photographers. The display areas are well-maintained, allowing you to stroll through and admire the vibrant blooms up close. It's clear that a lot of passion and expertise goes into cultivating these plants. Whether you're an avid orchid collector or just looking for a beautiful plant for your home, you'll likely find something here that catches your eye, and the plants generally appear very healthy.
The tranquil setting adds to the overall experience, providing a peaceful environment to simply enjoy nature's artistry. It's a fantastic spot for a calm outing or a unique place to source high-quality orchids.
The reason it's not a perfect 5-star for me is primarily its location; it requires a bit of a dedicated drive to get there, and once you're there, amenities beyond the orchids themselves are limited. It can also get quite warm inside the greenhouses on a sunny day, so do dress comfortably.
Despite these minor points, World of Phalaenopsis is a highly recommended visit for orchid enthusiasts, nature lovers, or anyone seeking a beautiful and unique horticultural experience in Selangor. Plan it as part of a day trip to Ulu Yam for a truly memorable outing!

Read moreThis was the highlight of my recent trip to Ulu Yam. The place is great for viewing and buying orchids, and there are no entrance fees. What better way to spend some time while in Ulu Yam?
Firstly, the place was a bit tricky to find. You actually have to drive through a residential area and Google Maps actually led me to a really narrow back lane that was too narrow for my SUV. I had to make a slight detour.
Once you get there, you will be greeted by the most amazing display of phalaenopsis (hence the name of the place) orchids, a genus of orchids also known as the moth orchid.
There are also air conditioned sections which house top quality orchids that are meant for premium bouquets. These are not cheap as each branch of orchid is upwards of RM 50 each and that is excluding the cost of arrangement and the vase or pot. These are truly beautiful but unfortunately photography is not allowed in these areas.
After browsing the orchids up front, you can head to the rear section where they have a tranquil pond which is home to a flock of ducks. Next to the pond is an area which houses the cheaper orchids. These are older or slightly flawed orchids that are sold for as low as RM 10 each.
If you want to get comfortable while you admire the scenic pond, you can head to the adjacent cafe which is not only comfortably air conditioned, but offers a wonderful view of the pond.
Even if you don't plan to buy any orchids, the place is a highly recommended stop. On a closing note, my advice to the owners of the place is to just simplify the name to World of Orchids. Most people, myself included, can't even pronounce, let alone know the word...
