Ta' Marija Cave — Attraction in L-Imġarr

The cave is not accessible in winter or in windy weather as the sea splashes along the route (path along the coast). However this beautiful panorama is well worth the hike, especially by the upper path.

The path to the cave is marked with tiny red dots on the rocks, markings visible from both sides from both Gnejna Beach and Fomm Ir-Rih. The trail from Gnejna is easier as the trail on the other side runs through landslides.

I had only kayaked on rivers before, and it was my boyfriend’s first time. We thought it would be fine on the open sea, but the waves made it difficult. We couldn’t get too close to the cave because the waves would have pulled us in and we felt sea sick. Kayak rental 28EUR for 2h for 2 people from Gnejna Beach. It was a little bit surprising that nobody asked us any basic questions—like whether we could swim or if we had any experience. They just put us in a kayak and that was it.

I had a strange experience by this place as the nature does not want me to go there. I tried to find a way by walking. I managed to go down to the waterline from the beach side. It was very difficult and dangerous. The way up took all my power and I could not find a safe way to reach the google path. I was completly powerless and lots of little wounds from sharp stones or fauna. I felt lost for 10 hours and I needed help to climb back to the normal way. Never had an experience like this before.
