Bras d’Eau National Park is a hidden gem in the northeast of Mauritius that offers a captivating escape into nature’s serenity. Spanning over 497 hectares, this park is a blend of dense forest, historic relics, and vibrant biodiversity, making it a perfect destination for nature lovers, hikers, and history enthusiasts alike.

Upon entering the park, you are greeted by lush greenery and the soothing sounds of chirping birds, including the rare Mauritius Paradise Flycatcher. The park’s well-maintained trails lead you through diverse landscapes, from ebony forests to coastal wetlands, providing a rich tapestry of flora and fauna. The highlight for many visitors is the scenic Bras d’Eau trail, which offers stunning views of the lagoon and the chance to see various endemic species.

One of the park’s unique features is its historical significance. Scattered throughout the forest are remnants of ancient sugar mills and lime kilns, dating back to the 19th century. These ruins, shrouded in moss and vines, add a mystical element to the hike and give a glimpse into the island’s colonial past.

For those interested in geology, the park also houses the Mare aux Joncs, a volcanic crater lake that adds to the diversity of the landscape. The serene waters of the lake, surrounded by towering trees and rocky outcrops, provide a tranquil spot for reflection and relaxation.

Facilities within the park are basic but sufficient. There are picnic areas for families to enjoy a meal amidst nature, and information boards are placed at key points to educate visitors about the park’s ecology and history. However, it’s advisable to carry sufficient water and snacks, as there are limited amenities within the park itself.

In conclusion, Bras d’Eau National Park is a must-visit for those seeking a peaceful retreat into nature, away from the bustling tourist spots of Mauritius. Its blend of natural beauty, wildlife, and historical intrigue offers a unique and enriching experience. Whether you’re an avid hiker, a birdwatcher, or simply someone who appreciates the tranquility of nature, Bras d’Eau National Park will leave you with...

On the plus side:

It looks like a quiet beach where you won't have 10 guys blasting their music over loudspeakers or being overly noisy. Great views. There is a lot of room along the beach to set camp and still have privacy... unlike some other beaches out there cough Pereybere coùgh There are public toilets for men and women.

Downside is that you will not find shops to buy food. It's a pretty secluded place. If you are planning to stay until dark make sure you have your own lighting solution figured out because there are none out there. Also this isn't a good spot to go swimming. If you are into kite surfing you're in luck because it's quite windy but wouldn't recommend for kids to go there.....

Very nice spot to spend some time among friends and family. The blue colour of the water during a bright sunny day just adds to the beauty of this beach. We can see islets with vegetations not far from the beach. There is a large area of green grass just infront of the beach. There was debris (algea I suppose) washed away from the sea on the sand. Swimming is rare. But it is very common to see people...

Beautiful and quiet white-sand beach. The place is in a part of the island that is less touristic, making it a nice gem. You'll park almost by the sea. Of course, don't expect to buy food or drinks or a bathroom here!

Nice little beach with good parking and shade in the trees. Not that much sandy area as it is mixed with grass. More of a beach for relaxation with a book or picnic rather than swimming and castle building
