It is the most beautiful beach in the whole area. Large enough to accommodate several restaurants. The restaurants culture was a positive experience. It's nothing like the next bay over toward the east, Riscolillo, which you need to beware of. Go there to check it out, but be on guard for the restaurant tricks there. See my other review on that beach. San Augustin was a very good experience. Some accommodations are available, and I stayed at Hotel Brisas. Great location right on the beach. The hotel had ac, clean rooms, and pillows with bedsheets that passed the smell test. Great free wifi. Some beach vendors, but we experienced no begging. We were here for 2 nights, then came back after a visit to Puerto Escondido for another 3. As you can tell, I like this bay. I recommend it above all other Huatulco bays. Then there is another beach around the western point that stretches a long way with excellent sunsets. All walking distance from the beach San Augustin. I found all locals to be engaging and helpful. Few tourists early February 2024. There are a few shops for basics. I will recommend this beach to my friends. The airport is a short trip up a bumpy dirt road to the highway, then just down the way on pavement...

Haphazardly built restaurants and shops are lined up wall-to-wall a mere twenty feet from the water, blocking easy public access and charging very high prices. (We were billed 1,800 pesos/$90 for a grilled fish!) The bathrooms were also the most disgusting I’ve come across in Mexico.
I really do hope that some kind of regulation and change can help preserve this bay, because there is some nice coral beyond the trash that has accumulated close to the beach. It’s a...
Read moreAmazing reefs and lovely beaches. Just posting here to warn people that there are no ATMs in this town/beach area and paying with card is an absolute nightmare. We had to sometimes come back the next day to pay with a card, or follow the restaurant owners down the street as they asked other restaurants to use their card readers. We should of had more cash, but by the end of our trip we didn't want to pay extra to take a cab just for an ATM. I still give it 5 stars because the beaches and reefs are so amazing. We were able to walk to Playa Riscalillo and to Playa de Coyote, so it really is well situated in some...
