Not a review I’m pleased to write but the way we were treated by a Marshall really bothered me. Playing as foursome with my brother and our fiancés. The pro shop allowed us to tee off early because it wasn’t busy which was great. We didn’t see a single person in front of us or behind. By the 8th hole we encounter a Marshall who asks us why we are playing slow. We were 9 mins behind pace at a time of 2 hours and 15 mins. With the comfort stations, the long drives between holes and the 30+ mph winds I thought we were doing well. Especially because we saw no one behind us. The Marshall followed us and sat right next to us for every shot over the next couple holes. Made us feel extremely uncomfortable. Before we finish the hole the Marshall is telling us he will go to the comfort station box up our food and get any drinks we want, but we are not allowed to go or stop there. I am not even to the green yet and this guy is rushing us off the hole. Once again NO ONE IS BEHIND US and we are not slowing anyone down. Due to this guy rushing us, we end up catching the group in front of us a few holes later. Four males who had to be 30-45 minuets behind pace compared to our 9 minutes. Honesty we had no problem with them playing at that pace but the Marshall pushed us for no reason. After assessing the situation it became very clear the Marshall was against us having women in our group and that was the reason he was on us. So sad for it being 2019. Hate to pull this card, but when he lets a foursome in front of us play an hour behind pace and says nothing but is on us for being 9 mins slow. For the amount of money this course cost you wouldn’t expect to be treated so poorly. I highly suggest spending your money elsewhere unless they have relieved this man of his duties. There’s no place in this world for people like him.
PS: we are owners at the Pueblo Bonita resorts and had waited 10+ years for this course to be built. We were promised it would be built within two years of us signing up but that’s a complaint shared by all owners who...
Read moreOn the plus side...the course design, conditions and service are just incredible. We played with local owners so we got their $195 resident rate which is the deal of the century considering the stunning course and the "all-you-can-eat-and-drink" comfort stations.
The 1st 5 holes get you going nicely with perfect grass and greens and a strategic risk/reward design. This is followed by a solid 10 minute drive up the mountain to the 1st comfort station and the stunning (and hard) 6th and 7th holes right on the ocean and into the ever-present wind. The 8th and 9th get really hard as the 20-30mph winds punishes any slightly mis-hit ball or any ball that's hit higher than 10' in the air. Another comfort station awaits you at the 10th hole along with a manageable par 3 that is kind of cross/downwind. Then back into the wind for 11-13 before you get to another stunning ocean par 3 hole at the 14th. The 15th-18th offer a fun, beautiful and challenging set of holes to finish up.
The only downside to the course/facility is the 5+ hour rounds that are almost unavoidable given the difficult course, the wind and the unlimited food and booze at the comfort stations. On our 2nd day we (and everyone else) got stuck behind a bunch of millennials in town for a wedding who started out OK but were all hammered by the 11-12th hole and got slower and slower. Between the booze, the heat and the multiple newbs in each group, it was brutal watching them screw around for 10 minutes on the tee box and then 10 minutes in the fairway and then 10 minutes on the greens. You wish a ranger would appear but I have no doubt they all paid the $400 non-resident rate and they wanted to eat/drink their money's worth.
With that griping done, it really is a bucket list course that I can't wait to play again. Plus I played the 3 signature ocean holes birdie, par, birdie so I'll need to try to repeat that bit of...
Read moreExcellent golf course in pristine condition. The views are unreal and worth the price of the round alone. The comfort stations lived up to the hype. Highly recommend this experience as it's unlike any other public golf experience I've had. The oceanfront holes were amazing. There was a bit of an eyesore with with all the residential construction going up around the course but the course itself was top notch. the stretch of holes between 5 and 13 might be the best group of holes i have ever played. this is a unique layout with enough variety to make almost every hole memorable.
There was a couple of things that bothered me with the process. First, I had an 11:15 tee time and was rushed off the range at 10:45. I had hit about 10 wedge shots and the guy on the range asked if I was ready and said the others were waiting on the tee. Well I wasn't ready but alright. Secondly the lady in the proshop was not friendly. My girlfriend came with me thinking it would be no problem for her to ride along. At first they balked at that request, then I offered to pay a rider fee and they took it ($50 for a rider, fine). I get it they don't want riders and want to keep the pace up, okay. Then I had to buy her a expensive collared shirt... Which I was okay with until we got paired with a lady in socks and sandals playing golf LOL. As far as I know, socks and sandals are not proper golf attire at any respectable golf club so I wasn't sure why they were sticklers about the shirt collar....but I digress. The merch is incredibly marked up as well ($212 for a peter millar polo that is normally $115).
In short, golf course excellent... Management and staff could use some work, especially the pro shop. all the staff on the actual course was great and treated us well. I was not treated very well compared to the rest of my stay at...
