Best ruins I’ve seen in Mexico. After visiting a few others like Chichén Itzá and Calakmul. This one is my favorite place to visit. You have simple but useful explanations on what the buildings were used for. You can actually enter and climb on buildings which allows you to get a nice view of what the Mayans were seeing and to get a better sens of what they were living like. The site is big enough to spend 2h there and not get bored. Also one of the best points is that it’s less frequented than the others because it’s less famous so we were not even 10 people at the same time to visit and it felt refreshing. Finally the entrance fee is cheaper than 100 per person and well worth...

$60pesos per person. Opens at 8am. Parking is free and has some shade. Bathrooms on site and clean. There are some signs posted around the site but a lot have been destroyed. When do you see them, they are in Spanish, Mayan, and English.

At first I thought we would have this to our selves all day. Arrived at 8am, and we were alone until a tour bus came shortly after. However, we only saw them twice. The site is big and if you walk the opposite way the tour group is walking, you won't see each other much. They didn't have a English speaking guide for us. And didn't appear to have any guides. You could try calling a local...

Couldn't visit Calakmul because it's was closed on monday so we choose this site which was better then expected. We were with only a few other people so you have the ruins almost for yourself and because you can climb on everything it feels like exploring this ancient city. Lot's of birds also in the area.

I imagine it is not as remote and big and beautiful as Calakmul and you don't see toucans or monkeys here, but it saves a 2 hour drive through the jungle and a lot of money.

We went to Ek Balam and Uxmal too but Becan was really one of the highlights or our holiday...

A large ancient Mayan regional capital the ruins of which have been partially restored. The site is fairly large but densely packed with structures, most of which can be climbed. Lots of neat nooks and crannies to discover, vaulted rooms and corridors abound as well as stairways and pyramids, and residential structures, platforms and altars. It costs less than 100 pesos to enter and I'd say it's one of the best ruins i have visited. One word of caution, wear mosquito repellent because these things are like vampires and will literally eat you alive.

Recommended ruins. 75 pesos. Easy access from the highway. There is a lot to see here, especially for the very reasonable price. There are some good interpretive signs in English and Spanish. You can climb most of the ruins and there are some great little nooks to explore. While you can climb the main structure, they ask you not to. If you do, please be respectful and don’t damage anything. There was almost no one here when I was here. It’s easy to get lost. There are bathrooms at the entrance. There are mosquitos so use bug spray.

One of the smaller Mayan sites in Mexico, but still worth visiting. The view of the large pyramid is spectacular and getting up there, as always, a bit of a chore. Of course other sites such as Tikal are a lot larger and better restored but the advantage here is that much less people visit it, which is also the reason why you are allowed to climb the original staircases of the buildings, which isn't possible in some of the other sites anymore due to the large number of people visiting them.
