Otoch Béek was a pleasant stay. There seems to be at least 2 duplexes on the beautifully landscaped property that is set aside for backpackers and weary travelers. The price we paid was around $30 US and totally worth it. Our hostess was super nice. We could communicate in English. There was a gentleman on the property constantly working to make everything maintained. The cat on the property, Mischa, is currently pregnant and found a warm place in my lap during our complimentary breakfast. Everything is so peaceful, I thought I’d never leave.
I can tell this place is a labor of love and still in progress of being even better. The only downside, and I only mention it to set expectations to those that read this review. The room is small. Think private room Hostel with private bath. The bathroom is larger than you would expect. The water pressure is minimal for the shower, and there is electricity charging it so be careful if you try and change the shower head. My “current” suggestion is just don’t touch it. The bed sheets were just a bit small for the bed, but the bed and pillows were super comfortable. The choice of our pillow cases were more for decoration and pretty, with big decorative buttons on one side. And only one easily accessible plug to charge phones and electronics. We did have cell service and I would definitely stay here again. I look forward to seeing how the property develops and of course getting to see me new...
Read moreOtoch Béek (Casa Robles) is in a great location for exploring the numerous Mayan sites in the area. Becán is just on the other side of the main highway and the road to Calakmul is west about 20 miles.||||The location is secluded and quiet, just south of the main highway 186. When driving east there’s a little sign pointing the way to turn right just before the last bus stop in Becán. After the right turn then a quick left and the cute, brightly painted bungalows will be on your right. ||||We had dinner a couple of times in the closest town, Xpujil, about 5 miles east. We noticed hotels there, but the highway through town is really noisy with trucks, so we were glad we didn’t stay in town. ||||Breakfast is included, but it’s minimal, just coffee, OJ, toast and bananas.||||East of Becán there are plenty of gas stations, but to the west there is nothing until Escarcega, so gas up there when headed east, or gas up in Xpujil when headed west.||||Otoch Béek doesn't take credit cards, so be prepared to pay in pesos or...
Read more😊: Very spacious, clean and relaxing place, perfect to stay for visiting Calakmul. Much better than the pictures. The living room is big, equipped with tea, coffee and water. The courtyard with trees and hammock was great to spend time there. The host is attentive and helpful. Next morning, they prepare a bag with snack, fruits and water, which was lovely because they are hard to find in this remote area. Plenty of space for parking. Very near to the ruins, Chicanna which I recommend to visit after Calakmul, and Becán. After staying one night at a rundown Cabañas in Conhuas at similar price, this place is a heaven.. 😢: I...
