San Miguel Fort offers a very good experience for the visitor who wants to know a little more about the period of Spanish rule in this territory of Mexico. The building and its cannons are well preserved and the view of the sea is very pleasant.
The best thing in my opinion is the collection that is exhibited in its rooms and that is extremely rich and well assembled. This collection is rich in Mayan artifacts and jewelry, displayed in a cozy manner.
This place offers a unique opportunity for children and adults. It is easy to reach from the center of the Campeche city (where we stayed) if you have your own vehicle.
The only drawback of the site is the limited parking space in front of the fort, many of the parking spaces are occupied early by vendors who park their cars there to offer their merchandise from their cars (they have the best shade), of course, we all have the right to earn our living, it could be very advisable for the operators of the Fort to take into account the needs of the merchants and visitors to provide the necessary spaces...
Read moreLiving in Merida for some time, ive heard about Fort in Campeche, and as lover of the historical places where you can walk over, touch and feel the history ( included pirates' history) i was excited finally to go and see it. So, was extremely hot, as it was in april, i wouldnt recommend to do it at this time. You pay entrance fee like 50 $MX and you walk around. The place is not big. Has expositions of mayan ruins, remains, explanation isin spanish.Has restroom facilities. And well, its enough about 30- 40 min to know the place, and for my personal opinion, i would like to see the place like real fortress; imitation, at least how it was, but instead of it I found rooms with mayan things. One thing I would like to mention i was charmed by historical center of Campeche, so my advise to do all sightseeing at once,...
Read moreThis small archaeological museum housed in one of Campeche's many fortifications is well worth a visit. It houses a surprisingly interesting and high quality collection. Of note are the funerary masks from Calakmul, a wooden sculpture (a rarity), and a great variety of intricate Jaina figurines. I like museums like this as they don't overwhelm. You can get an impression of all of it and come away enriched rather than exhausted. The fort itself sits in a position that dominates the coastline, so it affords some...
